As a lifelong resident of Antioch and public servant, I've dedicated myself to making this city a better place for people to work and live by:
Securing $1.2 billion to expand Highway 4 from four to eight lanes, improving the roads for commuters.
Like the Prewett Family Park and Community Center where families can gather to enjoy fun in the waterpark and residents can meet for events.
Increasing funding for the police to ensure safety and to serve a growing and diverse population.
Expanding code enforcement to protect public health, property values and the overall welfare of the city.
The “business” of the Antioch City Council is to protect citizens and provide services to improve our lives. City Council members should be accountable to residents. For years we’ve had instability with positions that are vacant, along with key budgeted positions – deteriorating our quality of life.
This is no way to run a city. And the Contra Costa County Grand Jury agrees.
Excerpts from the district attorney’s 2023-2024 Contra Costa Civil Grand Jury report.
"Turnover in city leadership (six permanent or acting City Managers since 2013) has resulted in an average tenure for Antioch City Managers that is less than half the state average... There are possible Brown Act (aka Open Meeting Law) violations by the Mayor and certain City Council members...A New City Manager's success will depend, in part, on the Mayor and City Council creating an environment that, while maintaining the oversight required by city ordinances, enables the City Manager to operate with independence..."
The full report (link below) is shocking and reveals failures of our current Mayor and City Council.
My Top Priority: Provide essential services to residents. Protecting residents starts with a cultural change in our police department and filling patrol officer positions.
Conduct a nationwide search and hire an experienced City Manager. The new City Council must hire an experienced manager who is responsible for selecting and managing a professional staff that consistently provides services citizens need. Lowering crime and homelessness, cleaning up graffiti and litter, and repairing streets should be the norm.
Fill budgeted, vacant staff positions. Our tax dollars are being wasted and not being used efficiently.
Insist on a completely transparent public accounting of funds. There are limited tax dollars. We must prioritize essential services to the community.
Conduct a thorough financial audit. We need to conduct a complete financial audit to ensure that money is spent on essential services.
I want to be the change we need to turn our city around. Let's be proud to call Antioch home. VOTE FOR DON FREITAS AND HOLD ME ACCOUNTABLE.
